George Town, Cayman Islands, 11 March 2020 – The CFA Society Cayman Islands (“CFASCI”) and Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA), hosted the first ever Corporate Ethics Challenge.

The Challenge is a global initiative which has been carried out at the University and Secondary-school levels, but this was a first for corporate teams. “We are thrilled to take the CFA Society’s Ethics Challenge to a new level by introducing the Corporate Challenge,” Siddhant Jain Jaiswal, CFASCI Ethics Challenge Coordinator said, adding, “This was an exciting moment for both organisations and the jurisdiction.”

Participants included CIIPA and CFA Society members who were divided into three teams. The teams were provided an ethics case study to review, analyse and prepare a presentation with their analysis and recommendations. The challenge culminated in presentations to a panel of judges. Each team was required to adhere to a fifteen-minute presentation followed by questions from the judging panel.

Teams were judged based on their ability to identify violations to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics & Standards of Professional conduct, as well as their recommended actions. CIIPA Ethics Committee Chair and panelist, Craig Smith congratulated the teams on their presentations, “All teams presented a thorough analysis of the cases and demonstrated an ability to navigate the gray areas.” Thanking all participants, Mr. Smith went on to announce the winning team of Mark Cook, Chloe Zhang, and Jessica Lopez.

“The event was an opportunity to learn from real-world situations and from each other’s experiences,” says Richard Maparura, CFASCI Education and Members Chair, who added, “We would like to see this become an annual event.”
